So here we go… Anna Sewell is popular as the author of the classic book black beauty. This book is one of the top 10 best-selling children’s novels ever written. However, it was not written for children at that time. Anna Sewell was born on 30 March 1820 in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England. Her father’s name was Issac Phillip Sewell. Her mother Mary Wright Sewell was an English poet and a successful author of Children’s book. Though she was popular in her days, she is better known today as the mother of Anna Sewell, the author of Black Beauty. She was also a great inspiration for Anna. She had a younger sibling named Phillip. As they lacked money for schooling, the kids were educated at home by her mother. Anna Sewell attended school for the first time when she was 12 when the family moved to Stoke, Newington in 1832. When she was 14 Anna injured her ankles severely as she slipped and fell down. For the rest of her life, she could not stand without a crutch or walk for any length of time. She used horse-drawn carriages for mobility. This contributed to her love of horses and regard for the humane treatment of animals. Her First and the Last Masterpiece Sewell wrote the manuscript of Black Beauty while living in old Catton. During this period, her health was deteriorating. She was very weak that she was restricted to her bed and writing was a real challenge. Her mother helped her by writing as she dictated.
