She was born at Shillong capital of the city Meghalaya, on 24 November 1961, her first book was the \”The God Of Small Thinks\” which she started in 1992 and completed it in 1996. It was her first and the most successful book. Arundhati Roy is also a social activist but she is best known as an author.

She got National Film Award for Best Screenplay in 1989,
Man Booker Prize in 1997, Norman Mailer Prize for Distinguished Writing in 2011, Sydney Peace Prize in 2004 and much. She also declined the Sahitya Akademi award in 1997.
